Belton McCoy’s to Reopen Less Than a Week After Flooding

As the remnants of Tropical Storm Hermine descended Wednesday, dropping more than 15 inches of rain in some areas of Texas, McCoy’s Building Supply found ten inches of flood waters inside their location at 212 North IH-35 in Belton, Texas.

Despite damage to that store, McCoy’s continues to serve its Belton-area customers from surrounding McCoy’s locations and intends to reopen its doors on Monday.

“Next to food and water, building materials for shelter is one of the first things people need after a natural disaster,” regional manager Ron Van Winkle said. “A lot of our customers were affected by this storm. We had four to five feet of water in our yard, and all the mud and the filth from the drainage creeks came inside the store. We’ve got 60 people down here working on clean up. Our store is a muddy mess right now, but we plan to have it cleaned out and the yard items we lost replaced by new stock by Monday.”

Nearly 65 percent of building materials in the yard including lumber, plywood were lost to the rising water. McCoy’s will not be reselling materials that were affected by the flooding.

Phone calls, deliveries and pending building material orders to the Belton McCoy’s are currently being rerouted from McCoy’s location in Georgetown, Texas.

“We’re all one big family here at McCoy’s,” Georgetown McCoy’s store manager Carlos Garcia said. “I’m glad my team can provide assistance to Andy Dobbins and the Belton crew during this tenuous time. We’re more than prepared to help folks in the Belton area start rebuilding.”
