McCoy’s Helps Habitat Recover From Theft

SAN MARCOS, Texas—After $5,268 worth of tools was stolen from a local Habitat for Humanity build site, McCoy’s Building Supply is helping the group finish their work in progress.

Tuesday morning, the San Marcos McCoy’s manager, Randy Haas, presented the Wimberley Valley Habitat for Humanity group with a McCoy’s Supply Card worth $1,000 to help the group recover some of their loss from the theft.

This is really perfect, because our insurance deductible for the tools is $1,000,” said Habitat president Jim McMeans.

The Habitat group arrived at their build site on January 9 to discover that their construction tools, including several nail guns, saws and drills, had been stolen. Members have been making due with their personal tools since the theft. The nonprofit group constructs safe, decent and affordable houses for families in need and relies solely on volunteer labor and donations of money and materials.

“It’s sad because as we are building, we keep realizing how many tools are missing,” said Habitat representative Tom McCombs. “You reach for a hammer or something, and it’s gone. The people at McCoy’s have been extremely helpful. I’ve been looking up prices on their Web site and making a list of what we need.”
