McCoy’s Estimating Department Takes the Guesswork Out of Homebuilding
McCoy’s Building Supply recently expanded its headquarters team to include an Estimating Department focused on winning bids, driving business and strengthening relationships with contractors by placing the company at the forefront of the building industry. The team at McCoy’s has estimated over a million square feet every month since its inception in March 2016, with its sights set on even more.
The Estimating Department works closely with each of McCoy’s 86 stores, who submit Take-Off Requests via the company’s intranet. Using plans and specifications provided by the contractor, the estimators create an individualized material list that includes notes and color-coded framing layouts showing how much of an item to use and where it would go.
“The color print-outs and the details of the estimate are the most professional thing out in the field today,” enthuses Tem Carpenter, Commercial Sales Representative at McCoy’s Longview location. “I often use them to show prospective customers what McCoy’s can offer.”
After the material Take-Off is complete, the material list is organized into a customer-specific priced bid. Customers are able to receive the material list and specific bid pricing within 3-5 business days of submitting the original Take-Off Request.
Streamlining the estimating process for contractors and homebuilders further strengthens McCoy’s focus on making life “easier and more fulfilling for those who build.” From beach houses in Galveston to single family homes in Oklahoma to fast food restaurants in Longview, McCoy’s estimators stay up-to-date on what constitutes an accurate material list, down to the specific building codes in each market.
“One of the main goals of our department is to provide a dependable experience for our customers,” shares Thomas Herndon, Estimating Supervisor. “Now, when a builder walks into any McCoy’s store with a set of plans, they’ll receive back a material list, framing layouts and a priced bid that not only look professional but are consistent in every location.”
