McCoy’s Promotes Environmentally Responsible Forestry
McCoy’s Building Supply’s Austin – Manchaca location is supporting its mission of making life easier and more fulfilling for those who build by earning the Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC) Chain of Custody Certification. The FSC certification confirms that materials sold as FSC certified are harvested from well-managed forest operations.
Today, more and more homes and businesses are built to high energy efficiency standards and McCoy’s is dedicated to providing customers with high quality, responsibly managed building materials. “We make it our job at McCoy’s to make life easier for the independent builder, remodeler and homeowner, and we’re excited to add FSC-certified material to our offerings for our customers,” says Meagan McCoy Jones, Vice President of Field Services. “We know some customers prefer it and certain projects demand it, and we’re thrilled to add this to the many ways we take care of our customers’ needs.”
The FSC label is the gold standard in forest management and sustainable wood products. FSC certified products are harvested, processed and manufactured in an environmentally responsible fashion. The products earn points for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) projects, NAHB's Model Green Home Building Guidelines and other green certification programs.
With a growing demand for green products in the Austin area, McCoy’s has designated its store on 1305 FM 1626, Manchaca, TX as its ‘one-stop green products’ shop. McCoy’s has FSC certified products available through special order, including dimension lumber, studs, softwood and hardwood boards, plywood, OSB, treated lumber and fire-treated lumber.
What is FSC-Certified?
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a non-profit organization devoted to encouraging the responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial, and economically viable way.
Chain of custody certification provides a guarantee about the production of FSC-certified products; it’s the path taken by raw materials from the forest to the consumer, including all successive stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution. Landowners and companies that sell timber or forest products seek certification as a way to verify to consumers that they have practiced forestry consistent with FSC standards. Independent certification organizations are accredited by FSC to carry out assessments of forest management to determine if standards have been met. These certifiers also verify that companies claiming to sell FSC-certified products have tracked their supply back to FSC-certified sources. This chain of custody certification assures that consumers can trust the FSC label.
Our FSC-certification number is: SCS-COC-004367.
